ADULT EDUCATION PROGRAM OUTLINE

RESIDENTIAL WIRING I

A basic 40-hour course introducing the electrical theory, wiring skills and practices, tools, materials, and National Electrical Code Requirements necessary to safely and competently repair or construct new, residential wiring circuits.

A. Introduction and overview of the course

B. Review of proper tools and equipment

C. Symbols, schematic diagrams and wiring diagrams

D. Introduction of Ohm’s Law

E. Service drops and service installation

F. Grounding of electrical systems

G. Wiring methods

H. Branch circuits

1. Lighting

2. Small appliances

I. Box mounting and wire installation

J. Code and wiring specifications for different applications
