 Microsoft Word

Course Description:

This course will teach the participant the basics of using Microsoft Word to perform various word processing functions applicable for business and private applications through instruction, examples, demonstrations and project assignments.  

Learning Outcomes:

  • Participants will be able to use the advanced functionality of the Microsoft Word program.
  • Participants will be able to perform critical thinking to create documents to address their written communication, standard and e-mailing applications using Microsoft Word and mail merge functions.
  • Participants will be able to apply advanced formatting to enhance the use of the documents they create.
  • Participants will be able to analyze and correct document errors.
  • Participants will be able to display their documents in a HTML form.
  • Participants will be able to integrate their documents into other Microsoft programs.
  • Participants will be able to create a basic web page using Microsoft Word.

Course Outline:

  1. Review of using Microsoft Windows operating system (95, 98, NT, 2000 or XP).
  2. Word window elements.
  3. Using the Office Assistant.
  4.  Using the View menu.
  5. Use of Word menus and toolbars.
  6. Use of mouse and keyboard in Word.
  7. Creating a new Word document.
  8. Making simple corrections to a Word document: insertion point edit data, undo and redo, and clearing contents.
  9. Copy, cut and paste functions.
  10. Move text using drag and drop.
  11. Working with shortcut key combinations.
  12. Move text from one document to the next.
  13. Spelling and thesaurus tools.
  14. Saving and closing a Word document.
  15. Using the Save As command.
  16. Font formats using tool bar and Format/Fonts to change font size, color, style and high light.
  17. Text alignment and the tab key.
  18. Bullets and numbering.
  19. Word Art.
  20. Inserting clip art and pictures
  21. Page setup and printing.

Microsoft Excel

Course Description:

This course will teach the participant the basics of using Microsoft Excel to perform various mathematical functions applicable for business and private applications through instruction, examples, demonstrations and project assignments.  

Learning Outcomes:

  • Participants will be able to use the basic functionality of the Microsoft Excel program.
  • Participants will be able to perform critical thinking to create spreadsheets to address their calculating needs using Microsoft Excel.
  • Participants will be able to apply formatting to enhance the use of the spreadsheets they create.
  • Participants will be able to analyze the spreadsheet data.
  • Participants will be able to display their data in a chart form.
  • Participants will be able to integrate their Microsoft Excel spreadsheets into other Microsoft programs.

Course Outline:

1.      Review of using Microsoft Windows operating system (95, 98, NT, 2000 or XP).

2.      Excel window elements.

3.      Use of Excel menus and toolbars.

17.  Auto calculate function.

18.  Creating a series.

19.  Natural language formulas make sure Tools/Options/Calculations/allow labels is checked.

20.  Creating comments.

21.  Print preview, page set up and print.

22.  Editing and deleting rows and columns.

23.  Dragging and dropping data on a worksheet.

24.  Inserting page breaks.

25.  Inserting headers and footers.

26.  Copy and pasting special.

27.  Transpose data in a worksheet.

28.  Importing a worksheet into Microsoft Word.

 Microsoft Power Point

Course Description:

Participants will learn the basic application, creation and implementation of the Microsoft Power Point program allowing them to design and customize their own presentations for personal and business applications.  

Learning Outcomes:

Upon completion participants will be able to:

·        Use the basic functions of the Microsoft Power Point program to create a multi-slide presentation.

·        Perform critical thinking to create presentations to address their personal and business needs using Microsoft Power Point.

·        Apply additional editing and formatting skills to enhance the use of the presentations they create.

·        Apply backgrounds.

·        Apply slide transitions.

·        Edit the slide order, copy and delete slides.

·        Integrate their Microsoft Word and Excel documents into Power Point presentations.

·        Integrate their Microsoft Power Point presentations into other Microsoft programs such as Microsoft Word and Front Page.

·        Save and use the Pack and Go function.

  3. Using Power Point’s auto layout.
  4. Toolbars.
  5. Inserting Text.
  6. Editing text.

  9. Saving presentation.
  10. Opening a presentation.
  11. Using slide views.
  12. Checking a presentations slide layout.
  13. Rearranging a slide presentation.
  14. Copying and deleting slides.
  15. Using the outline view.
  16. Using spell check.
  17. Understanding the features of the print dialog window.
  18. Printing a presentation.
  19. Inserting clipart into the presentation.
  20. Adding transitions, sound and timings.
