AUTO CAD I

(COMPUTER AIDED DRAFTING)

Adult Education Program Outline  

 

 

Course Description

This course introduces computer-aided drafting (CAD) and examines the hardware that makes up a CAD workstation.  It also covers the operating system (Windows) that enables the equipment to function as a unit.  The course shows how to use AutoCAD to set up drawings and add lines, circles, arcs, other shapes, geometric constructions, and text.  Students will use display and editing techniques, as well as obtain information about their drawings and work with drawing files.

Objectives

After completing this course, students will be able to:  

·      Identify CAD hardware and computer room procedures

·      Use a keyboard, cursor pointing device, digitizer tablet, and video graphics terminal to put drawing information into a computer

·      Use basic Windows commands to format disks, arrange disk directories for files and programs, and perform disk file manipulation such as copying and deleting

·      Describe and use the basic terms, concepts, and techniques of computer-aided drafting

·      Set up drawings, use drawing aids, save drawings, and get help when needed

·      Draw lines, basic shapes, geometric constructions, and edit drawings

·      Use display options to increase drawing flexibility

·      Place text on drawings

·      Use basic and advanced AutoCAD editing commands

·      Create multiple patterns of drawing components

·      Obtain information about drawings and work with drawing files

·      Plot or print drawings (optional)

Course Length

40 Hours - 13 Weeks

Prerequisite

Previous knowledge of computers of computer programming is not required.

Required Text

AutoCAD and Its Applications, Chapters 1-6, 8, 9, 11, 13, 14, 17 and Chapter 10 if drawings are to be printed or plotted.

 Required Materials

Two 1.4 M floppy disks or one CD-RW.
